Kellet Street, Potts Point
Robert Mills Architects and Interior Designers
Operating across multiple levels of the heritage, art deco building at 34 Kellet Street, Potts Point is the ultra premium One Hot Yoga studio. After proving a huge success in Melbourne, One Hot Yoga chose the striking building as its first Sydney location which includes both yoga and pilates spaces across ground floor and level 3.
Designed by iconic Melbourne architecture studio Robert Mills Architects and Interior Designers, the spaces exhibit elegant minimalist design with great attention to detail paid to the selection of finishes and fixtures. With such care and attention to design detail applied to the aesthetic, The Building Guild was appointed to construct the interior space, armed with fully documented interior design with building services elements to be delivered as a design and construct scope.
Working within the context of a heritage building, which also houses City of Sydney Council staff, The Building Guild team was required to meticulously plan its construction methodology to limit impact on the other building tenants and the general public along this important community high street. While the final space is largely open plan, many elements of the project required complex construction and engineering solutions to create both a luxurious experience and physically create the temperatures required for the styles of yoga taught. For example, the level 3 studio space is divided by full height custom designed, recessed track mounted, steel sliding doors which (because of their sheer size) had to be crane lifted into the space through an opening The Building Guild team had to make in the roof structure.
Furthermore, the design of the mechanical and heating systems required to quickly change the temperature of the studio from 27 degrees to 38 degrees while allowing the non-studio space to remain at 21 degrees precisely, is highly advanced and required extra treatment to the heritage glazing to reduce the impact of outside heat on the interior space.
